Jerusalem: The Faiths and Fortunes of Gods Holy City
Text: Jerusalem: The Biography, by Simon Sebag Montefiore, (Pub. 2011). The six classes will focus on the six themes of the Montefiore book. The themes are as follows: The Tribal Period, Canaanites, Hebrews and others; The Christian Periods, The Byzantine Era and Two Centuries of the Crusades; The Muslim Periods; The British Periods, The Mandate, Arthur Balfour and Lawrence of Arabia; The Israeli Period, from UN Resolution 182 (11/29/47) to now; The Future of the Holy City, continually adapting traditions?

Thomas Voss, Ph.D., LLD., is a retired university president and author of nine published academic books, including the multi-volume William Cullen Bryant.

It’s All in the Chemistry
Does a personal relationship off-screen have an affect on the stars screen chemistry? We will see films with Kathryn Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and compare the on-screen chemistry she has with him and also with Cary Grant. Please buy and begin “An Affair To Remember” available at Shakespeare & Co.

The Creative Process
By studying variations not only as the entire movement of a symphony or the development section in sonata form, but also as the title of a separate work of music, the course will examine how classical music is written and developed. The study includes works from Bach, Paganini, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Elgar and R. Strauss. The works are presented in historical sequence from Baroque to Romantic.

Jane Davis Sine, BA, Smith College, BS/MS Western Connecticut State University; graduate studies in piano and double bass; graduate studies in piano and cello in Uruguay and Argentina; string teacher for over 20 years; founder of artist management company representing classical musicians and conductors internationally. Currently teaches music appreciation courses on Hilton Head Island, at the University of South Carolina, at OLLI in Waterbury, CT and previously taught at Marymount Manhattan.
