Coming up at CL&L…

What People Are Saying

It's always a joy to present to the CL&L gang. Their combination of lived experience with unabated curiosity makes for a very lively environment. And it's thrilling every time when history leaps to life through the shared experiences of this fascinating group of people!

~ Jamie Bernstein, speaker at CL&L. Author of the memoir, Famous Father Girl (the famous father was Leonard); she is a narrator, broadcaster, and filmmaker.

“Thank you to CL&L because I've made a lot of personal friends. I'm very happy to be part of this group of like-minded people. It’s been a wonderful experience.”

“I really enjoy the classes very, very much.  I'm so happy to have participated for many years, starting at Marymount and now here.  The courses are fantastic.  It’s really filled a void, especially during hard times.  I congratulate everyone on the board.”

“Why do I attend CL&L? It is the best bargain in town!!! Fascinating interactive classes, totally engaging teachers and very involved students.”

CL&L is more than an educational program. It’s a wonderful community of like-minded people!

“Interesting – intriguing – intellectual – informative! From a class on the fall of ancient Rome to a weekly discussion on the current political climate in the US. From a musical video guide on the rise of the Beatles, to a literary discussion on the meaning of Gogol's masterful story The Nose – CL&L always manages to organize a meaningful, pertinent selection of thoughtful topics, with plenty of opportunity for questions and interaction.”

“CL&L, I believe, is one of the best-kept secrets in the city for anyone 55+. Classes provide intellectual stimulation, enjoyment, as well as camaraderie with others – who offer their comments and questions for all to learn. My classes [were] taught by intelligent, experienced leaders.”

“For the last several years I have greatly enjoyed interacting as a speaker with the CL&L group.  It’s an audience that shares a familiarity with history and is sharp when it comes to current developments in our ever-changing political landscape. I also get to use the group as a sounding board for what is on people’s minds from election to election.  The opportunity to share the podium with Inara de Leon, who directs the conversation in our sessions, takes us both back to our time covering politics and polls at WNBC. “ -Lee Miringoff, Director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion.

“I love the Center for Learning and Living and it has been my pleasure to be part of the center for three decades now. The members are such a lively and interesting group of people who are so smart, compassionate and well-informed. I am happy to teach classes at the center because we always have a fun time! “

We are a nonprofit organization for people 55+, offering non-credit weekday daytime classes on a wide range of subjects: current events and issues, culture and the arts, and historical views. Faculty members are academics and other experts. Our live classes invite active student participation and interaction.

We were founded at Marymount Manhattan College in 1994 and are affiliated with the College now as an independent organization. Since our founding, students have enjoyed intellectual stimulation in a lively, informal atmosphere.

CL&L offers 8-week semesters in fall, winter and spring, with 3 daytime classes each on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Topics include the timely and the timeless. Our spring semester program is 8 weeks.
