Gender Bending in the Movies

The movies have been full of what might be referred to as gender bending. Lots of stories of people dressing in attire usually worn by the opposite sex. Sometimes it’s because they are legitimate drag performers. Sometimes it’s a fetish. These are both good reasons for cross-dressing. This class will examine stories of people who do it for neither reason but simply to solve a problem. Either they are looking for work, as in Tootsie;  trying to stay close to their children, as in Mrs. Doubtfire; running away from gangsters as in Some Like It Hot; or even trying to be allowed to study as in Yentl. We all do what we have to do to survive. A lot of great examples of this over the years. Richard’s session is loaded with entertaining and moving clips to accompany his talk.
